Java and Mobile Engines

Having moved on from GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS, we looked into other ways of distributing games.  One idea we had, was to develop a browser-based game engine which offered a rich gaming experience within a browser window.  The surreal looking images below are taken from our test Java browser engine.  This featured a character moving around an animated environment (with realtime cast shadows):

The Java engine incorporates the following technical features:

  • Morph target, key frame and bone based animation systems
  • Particle systems
  • 2D sprite and tile based rendering
  • Special effects
  • 2D / 3D collision detection

We also experimented with J2ME mobile products, developing six mobile phone titles.
